IVY LIAO

Student. Athlete. Life-long Learner.

Hello! My name is Ivy, and I'm a member of the Canadian National Women’s Table Tennis Team. I first picked up a racquet at age seven, fell in love with the complexity of the sport, and never looked back. Now, as a Pan American Games Bronze Medalist, a five-time Senior World Championship participant, and the Secretary of Table Tennis Canada's Athletes' Commission, I am aiming for the Olympics and hope to continue promoting table tennis and healthy living amongst youth in North America.

Born and raised in East Vancouver, I owe my love of learning to the phenomenal teachers, coaches, and mentors I have had in my life. I graduated as the Valedictorian of my class at Britannia Secondary School, completed the Bachelor of Commerce Program with Honours at UBC’s Sauder School of Business (with specializations in Accounting and Business Law), and will be commencing my studies in the JD Program at UBC's Allard School of Law in September 2024. Throughout my academic journey so far, I've been blessed to receive numerous scholarships and awards, including the UBC Wesbrook Scholar Designation (2022), C.K. Choi Scholarship (2022), Lululemon Leadership Award for IBPOC Students (2023), and Beedie Luminaries Grade 12 & Graduate Studies Awards (2019 & 2023).

My journey so far would not have been possible without the incredible support I have received from my family and community, which has sparked my love of giving back. Currently, I am involved in various initiatives and programs that support youth in Vancouver with organizations including Girls Who LEAP, Face of Today Foundation, and ShEvalesco. Looking forward, I plan to continue immersing myself in opportunities to develop new skills and gain professional experience in law, business, and sustainability so that I can give back to my community in a greater capacity in the future.

If you want to get in touch or if any part of my story resonates with you, reach out via LinkedIn or email me to say hello!
